Issues

1. #1 PRIORITY: End the fiscal and legislative gridlock. The issues are so important to the people and until we attend to the legislative and financial gridlock we won't be able to do the people's work. "Sacramento needs a Mediator" and with more than 25 years of mediation experience I'll bring everyone to the table working to build consensus so we can make progress on the issues so critical to the people of the 38th. When the legislature makes win-lose arrangements, the public loses. "I'm about fighting for issues, not against people." My record shows, I'm about making things happen. With more than 25 yrs. of experience, that's what I do; I bring people together. I know how the legislative process works, I know the people involved; By electing me you have a conscientious, tenacious, & hard working public servant. No learning curve. While I've always been a fighter for the people's issues I'm not into combat, rather into conflict resolution, working together for the good of all. Working strenuously, consistently, passionately and diligently. Building Consensus.


2. Freeway Gridlock and Infrastructure; Local Zoning & Eminent Domain: * 5,14,118,210 &405 - Not Lucky Lotto #'s; Worst nightmare, Freeway Gridlock.
   • Use creative ideas from University and Corporate experts for local benefit. *Be vocal so that the 38th gets it's fair share of new Infrastructure Dollars. Will fight for badly needed, long overdue: infrastructure improvements
   • Freeways, street improvements, levee protections,
   • Local zoning issues and
   • Eminent domain control; "Opposes any government action using eminent domain to take property for a project which is not for public use"


3. I'll see that we put a spotlight on our:
   • Schools (if our children's education doesn't improve we don't move forward as a society, we won't be able to compete locally and Internationally);
   • More concern for our teachers including Library Media Teachers;
   • Vocational Education Opportunities with apprenticeships;
   • Substantial increase in literacy opportunities,
   • Educational Opportunities for all adults for a lifetime of learning &
   • Additional attention to and assistance for our Foster Kids &
   • Special attention to improved graduation rates; (50% grad rate in LAUSD.)
   Provide the district with a greater knowledge of the excellent programs and grant opportunities already in existence from which they can benefit. My office will work with community organizations, faith based organizations, private and public schools and others to promote which best practice programs are currently available & we'll put our limited resource dollars into these for the benefit of the 38th.


4. More business to 38th;
   • Major emphasis on creation of more quality jobs;
   • * Major attention to Small Business incubators;
   • * Prevent "run away film production."
   • As with all business, major incentives, Tax incentives for the employers and for workers who raise their level of skills, (use of libraries, colleges, organizations.)
   • Make sure the 38th is a business friendly assembly district. Reduce red tape, bring labor and management together on business issues as both of their financial lives depend on it.
